The Kodoks 



The Kodoks were an early R&B Group that consisted of male members with a female lead singer. Their sound was likened to Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers. They had popularity but failed to make the National Charts, even after appearing on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. Tribute Mondays: Howard "Sandman" Sims

Howard "Sandman" Sims (January 24, 1917– May 20, 2003)


Tap Dancer and Vaudeville Performer, Howard Sims, began Tapping at aged 3 years old. He was regarded for his technique of dancing in a Sandbox filled with sand to create new sounds and also for winning the Amateur Night Competition at the Apollo Theater 25 times. He taught Gregory Hines, Ben Vereen and taught Boxing footwork to Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammed Ali. He worked for many years at the Apollo Theater ushering failed contestants off the stage. Mr. Sims was instrumental in the revival of Tap Dancing in the 1970's and the 1980's and made appearances on The Cosby show and other television series. Joan Elizabeth Shaw (born January 29, 1930)


Jazz, R&B and Cabaret Singer, Joan Shaw, performed under the name, Joan Shaw from the late 1940's to the early 1960's and then changed her name to Salena Jones. She has toured numerous countries and recorded over 40 Albums in a long running career. Jazz Greats: Luther Henderson

Luther Henderson (March 14, 1919 – July 29, 2003)

Arranger, Composer, Orchestrator and Pianist, Luther Henderson, was renowned for his Broadway Musicals. He got his Bachelor of Science Degree from the Julliard School of Music in 1942 and contributed to Duke Ellington's works heavily. He was also the Orchestrator at the US Navy School of Music (Washington DC) and worked on over 50 Broadway Musicals and did some television shows. Orlando Wright (born January 3, 1921,
Wheeling, West Virginia - died March 26, 1988, Los Angeles, California)


Jazz Saxophonist and Flautist, Musa Kaleem, toured with Art Blakey, Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and others.
