Dan Burley & His Skiffle Boys was led by Pianist, Composer and Journalist, Dan Burley, whom worked as an Editor at many African American Publications (New York Age, Amsterdam News, Ebony, Jet and Duke). They released Skiffle Music (Jazz, Blues, Folk and American Folk influences played with homemade improvised instruments) during the 1940's. The Band seemingly ended in the 1950's. Hip Hop Duo, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, began their careers in 1989 and released their hit singles during The Golden Age of Hip Hop. Pete Rock produced the beats from Soul and Jazz samples and CL Smooth used philosophical lyrics. They have reunited after a few years of Solo efforts and remains active. Tribute Mondays: Rosco Gordon

Rosco N. Gordon III (April 10, 1928 – July 11, 2002)

Blues Pianist, Singer and Songwriter, Rosco Gordon, was a pioneer of the Memphis Blues style. His piano playing style called "The Rosco Rhythm" influenced the Jamaican Pianist, Theophilus Beckford and in turn Reggae music. He left the industry in 1962 and went into the Laundry business. Jazz Greats: Herbie Nichols

Herbert Horatio Nichols (3 January 1919 – 12 April 1963)

Jazz Pianist and Composer, Herbie Nichols, is regarded for writing the Jazz Standard, "Lady sings the Blues" Billie Holiday. His music consisted of a combination of Bop, Dixieland and Caribbean music and harmonies from composers Erik Satie and BelĂ¡ BartĂ³k. Most of his works from the 1950's was released in the 1980's, as critics of the day had little regard for his efforts during those years. Babatunde Olatunji

Babatunde Olatunji (April 7, 1927 – April 6, 2003)

Nigerian Drummer, Educator. Social Activist and Recording Artist, Babatunde Olatunji, attended the Morehouse College in the US on a scholarship during the 1950's and then went on to the New York University. After being signed to Columbia Records, he released material that introduced Americans to World Music. He was a part of the civil rights movement, touring with Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. He also taught in many capacities, worked with Horace Silver, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder and others and composed for film and Broadway.
