Melvin James "Sy" Oliver (Dec. 17, 1910 – May 28, 1988)

Jazz Trumpeter, Singer, Composer, Arranger and Bandleader, Sy Oliver, was involved in the composition and arrangement of major pieces during the Big Band era and was also a musical director for Decca Records. He was a noted Trumpeter and a force behind Ella Fitzgerald and a well received Frank Sinatra Album. Please take a listen here and have a great Saturday: For dancers only (Jimmie Lunceford), House party (Sy Oliver and his Orchestra) and Yes indeed (Tommy Dorsey)
