Eric Allan Dolphy, Jr. (June 20, 1928 – June 29, 1964)

Jazz alto Saxophonist, Bandleader, Composer, Flautist and Bass Clarinetist, Eric Dolphy, had working partnerships with John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Booker Little and others. He was also a major influence on Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock an a long list of talented musicians that passed through his Band. He died in Berlin, Germany in 1964 at aged 36 years old, as a result of his diabetic coma being mistaken for 'a Black Jazz musician on drugs', at the hospital, and he was given detox meds instead of the right treatment.
