Jazz Greats: Jaki Byard

John Arthur "Jaki " Byard (June 15, 1922 – February 11, 1999)


Jazz Composer, Arranger, Teacher and Jazz Multi-Instrumentalist (Piano, Tenor and Alto Saxophone, Bass, Trombone, Drums, Guitar and Trumpet), Jack Byard, released 35 Albums as a Bandleader and worked on over 50 Albums as sideman during his 60 years career. He taught both privately and at numerous Institutions (Harvard University, New England Conservatory of Music, Hartt School of Music, Manhattan School of Music and New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music) from 1969 onwards. He often played the Saxophone with his left hand and the Piano with his right hand on stage.
