Jazz Greats: Charlie Ervis

Charlie Irvis (May 6, 1899,

New York City – 1939)




Jazz Trombonist, Charlie Ervis, was one of the contributors to the development of "Jungle Sounds" (growl effects) in Trombone playing. He was a Sideman and also had a stint in Duke Ellington's Orchestra. His playing can be heard on songs between the 1920's and 1930's,  by Artists such as Fats Waller, Charlie Johnson, Jelly Roll Morton, Elmer Snowden and many others.
