Jazz Greats: Tricky Sam Nanton

Joe "Tricky Sam" Nanton (February 1, 1904 – July 20, 1946)

Pioneer of the Plunger Mute, Tricky Sam Nanton, created the Wah-Wah effect on the Trombone, that was largely used in the Swing Genre. His techniques that created near speech tones from his instrument, has not been replicated by anyone to date. Please take a listen here to his works with The Duke Ellington Orchestra and have a relaxing Saturday: The blues I love to sing , Doin' the voom voom , The Mooche , Mood indigo , Black and tan fantasy and East St. Louis Toode- oo
