Tribute Mondays: Wilton Gaynair

Wilton "Bogey" Gaynair (born 11 Jan. 1927 Kingston , Jamaica – died 13 Feb. 1995 Cologne, Germany)

Jamaican Jazz Musician (Tenor Saxophone), Wilton Gaynair, backed George Shearing and Carmen McRae on their visit to Jamaica and went on to tour Europe. He recorded as a Bandleader sparingly, but was a Sideman for Freddie Hubbard, Shirley Basset and others. A stroke put an end to his career in 1983 and he died in 1995. Musician, Visual Artist and Educator, Bill Dixon, was a main figure in the Free Jazz Movement and founded the United Nations Jazz Society. He released efforts both as a Sideman and a Bandleader. He also worked as Professor of Music at Bennington College from 1968 to 1995.
