Hip Hop DJ and Producer, Jazzy Jay, was a protégé of Afrika Bambaataa and began his tenure during the 1970's at aged 13 years old. He appeared in the Beat Street film in 1984 and assisted in the formation of Def Jam Recordings. He also went on to Produce early works for Fat Joe, A Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian and others. Jazz Bandleader and Saxophonist, Les Hite, played in Bands during the 1920's and was a Bandleader beginning in the 1930's. His Sideman work included stints with Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and others. His Band, Sebastian's Cotton Club Orchestra included Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, T-Bone Walker and many more. He rarely recorded and only a few pieces are available. He died in 1962; thanks for your contribution Mr. Hite, you are appreciated. Jazz Drummer, Bandleader and Businessman, Curtis Mosby, toured during the 1910's and led his own Ensemble into the 1920's. He then opened a Record Store and a few Nightclubs and also appeared in movies with his band in 1929. After fighting Bankruptcy in the 1930's, he lost control of his clubs in 1947 when he was jailed for 2 years for tax evasion. He died in 1957.
