Tribute Mondays: Magic Slim

Morris Holt (August 7, 1937 – February 21, 2013),

Blues Singer and Guitarist, Magic Slim, was initially a Piano Player, but lost his little finger in a Cotton Gin mishap and had to switch to Guitar. He played Bass with Magic Sam, who gave him his nickname. He began his recording career in 1966 and continued with many Albums up to 2013, the year of his death. Carl Weathersby

Carlton Weathersby (born 24 February 1953, Jackson, Mississippi )

Electric Blues Vocalist, Guitarist and Songwriter, Carl Weathersby, accompanied Albert King and Billy Branch after beginning his career in the 1970's. He was taught the  Guitar by Albert King after meeting him by chance and playing him one of his songs and performing it  with many mistakes. He worked in the steel mill, was a Prison Guard and Police Officer and served in the US Army from 1971 to 1977 during the Vietnam War. His solo career began in the mid-1990's and he remains active. Jazz / Swing Greats: Tyree Glenn

William Tyree Glenn (born Nov. 23, 1912, Corsicana, Texas, US – May 18, 1974, Englewood, New Jersey, US),

Trombone Player and Vibraphone Player, Tyree Glenn, was a much loved Swing Musician that worked in regarded Bands during the 1930's after crafting his skills in local Texas Bands. He was a studio and touring Musician that worked with several Artists (Benny Carter, Cab Calloway, Don Redman, Duke Ellington and others. He led a Quartet in the 1950's and worked on Television and Radio. Mr. Glenn wrote "Sultry Serenade". Buddy Miles

George Allen "Buddy" Miles Jr. (September 5, 1947 – February 26, 2008)

Composer and Producer, Buddy Miles, was a founding member of the Electric Flag and was also a member of Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys. He worked from his teenage years as a drummer for Rhythm and Blues and Soul acts such as Ruby & the Romantics, The Delfonics, Wilson Pickett, Jimmy Hendrix and many others. He collaborated with many over the years and released material with his Bands. He died in 2008 of congestive heart failure. Trinidad and Tobago born Reggae Singer, Songwriter and Musician, Foxy Brown, made her debut with some Tracy Chapman Reggae covers and was dubbed the Jamaican Tracy Chapman. She also scored Dancehall hits and released 3 Albums between 1989 and 1992. These Albums consisted of Reggae and Lovers Rock material. She is often confused with the American Rapper, Foxy Brown. The Raelettes

Girl Group, The Raelettes, were active from the 1950's to the early 2000's and were created to be Backing Vocalists for Ray Charles. They were initially called The Cookies and was reformed as the Raelettes in 1958, and continued for years with various members. Their own material were produced between 1966 and 1973. Group member Margie Hendrix died of a drug overdose in 1973. His professional recording career began in 1992 and after some years he had huge success in 2004.
