Jazz Greats: George Lewis (Clarinetist)

George Lewis (born Joseph Louis Francois Zenon , July 13, 1900 – December 31, 1968)

Jazz Clarinetist, George Lewis, formed The New Orleans Stompers in the 1920's and continued working as a Sideman and also as a member in a Band (Eureka Brass Band) and a Orchestra (Olympia Orchestra). He fell on hard times and worked offloading and loading cargo at the loading shipping docks of the Mississippi River. He was injured at the docks and recorded his signature song "Burgundy Street Blues" on a portable Recorder in  his recovery bed. He found fame in his latter years and continued up to his death in 1968. Please take a listen here and have a superb Saturday: Just a closer walk with thee, Careless love, Bugle Boy March, Just a little while, Over the waves and Burgundy Street Blues
