Charlie "Fess" Johnson (Nov. 21, 1891, Philadelphia – Dec. 13, 1959, New York City )
Jazz Bandleader and Pianist, Charlie "Fess" Johnson, was the leader of the Paradise Ten from the 1920's to 1935. The ensemble gave regarded Sidemen such as Benny Carter, Sidney DeParis, Benny Waters and many others, their recognition. After leaving the Paradise Ten he did freelance work in other ensembles until he was forced to retire because of poor health.
