Freddie Mitchell

Freddie Mitchell (April 08, 1918 - June 09,2010)


Blues Pianist, Saxophonist and Clarinetist, Freddie Mitchell, started as a preteen Blues Pianist, before becoming a Saxophonist in his teen years. He worked as a sideman for many Jazz Greats and A&R and Music Director for Derby Records. He faded into obscurity during the 1960's, becoming a Taxi Driver. Jazz Pianist, Tenor Saxophonist, Composer and Arranger, Horace Silver, was an Hard Bop pioneer, that innovated the use of the Piano in Jazz compositions. He influenced many, worked as a sideman and wrote and recorded Jazz Standards. He was also instrumental in launching the careers of young musicians that passed through his Band.
