Walter Luzar Campbell (Mar 21, 1916 – July 20, 1993)

Saxophonist and Bandleader, Choker Campbell, is remembered for his work at Motown Records. He also led the Backing Band for The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder and others. He led his own Band after leaving Motown Records. Jazz Bassist, Richard Davis, are regarded for his Bass playing on projects by Eric Dolphy, Van Morrison, Andrew Hill and others. He was a Sideman to Sarah Vaughan, Booker Irvin,  Dexter Gordon and others. He began his long run during the 1940's and still remains active as a Professor (Bass, Jazz, History and Inprovision) at the University of Wisconsin Madison and performing.
