Tribute Mondays: Louisiana Red

Iverson Minter (March 23, 1932 – February 25, 2012)

Blues Guitarist, Harmonica Player and Singer, Louisiana Red, recorded over 50 Albums between 1963 and 2011. His mother died of pneumonia shortly after his birth and his father was lynched in 1937. He worked extensively on his music after leaving the Army in the late 1950's. Some of his recorded works from the 1970's were released in latter years. He died in 2012 in Germany, where he had lived since 1981. Thanks for your contribution Mr. Minter, you are appreciated. Henry Butler

Henry Butler (September 21, 1948 – July 2, 2018)

Jazz Pianist and Photographer, Henry Butler, is regarded for being versatile with both hands on the Piano. He was blinded as a youth by Glaucoma, but continued on through music school, later earning a Master's Degree in Music at Michigan State University in 1974. The International Sweethearts of Rhythm




Swing and Jazz All Women's Band, The International Sweethearts of Rhythm, was an excellent group of Musicians that began their tenure during the 1940's. They were regulars at the Apollo Theater, Regal Theater and Howard Theater, but only a few recordings were made by the Group. The members were of different races (Black, Latina, Asian, Caucasian, Indian and Puerto Rican). Group members also had successful solo careers and led Bands of their own. Joe McPhee

Joe McPhee (born November 3, 1939)

Jazz Multi-instrumentalist (Tenor, Alto and Soprano Saxophone, Trumpet, Flugelhorn and Valve Trombone), Critic and Educator, Joe Mcphee, has been a main force in Free Jazz for over 50 years. He lectured at Vassar College during the 1960's and 1970's and still remains active mostly as a touring Artist. Jamaican Reggae Deejay, Tony Rebel, began his run as a Singer on Sound Systems in the 1980's and then became a Singjay, scoring hits locally and internationally.
