Lucille Nelson Hegamin (Nov. 29, 1894 – Mar. 1, 1970)

Blues Singer and Entertainer, Lucille Hegamin, worked between 1910 and 1934, and then again between 1961 and 1962, after returning from working as a Nurse. She began touring in Minstrel shows at aged 15 and worked in Cabaret for a while. She was the second African-American Blues Singer to Record in 1920 and continued on recording numerous singles. Actress and Classic Blues Singer, Daisy Martin, began her career in Vaudeville and went on to be one of the first Black Woman to sing Blues on a Recording in 1921. Jazz Trombonist, Charlie Ervis, was one of the contributors to the development of "Jungle Sounds" (growl effects) in Trombone playing. He was a Sideman and also had a stint in Duke Ellington's Orchestra. His playing can be heard on songs between the 1920's and 1930's,  by Artists such as Fats Waller, Charlie Johnson, Jelly Roll Morton, Elmer Snowden and many others. Jamaican Saxophonist and Flautist, Cedric Brooks, was a member of The Mystic Revelations Of Rastafari, The Sound Dimensions, Divine Light, The Light of Saba and The Skatalites and also released his solo efforts. He worked as a studio musician in the 1970's and did most of his own recordings during this period. Future outputs was limited in the 1980's and 1990's, but he continued on with his session work. In the Old School Hip Hop class year book, this Rapper would be listed under least likely to succeed. He went on to score hits and lead a successful Label after starting out with Jaz-O. Although he has been accepted by Hip Hop heads and I have more Jay-Z Albums in my collection than I should.
