Helen Humes (June 23, 1913 – September 9, 1981)


Jazz and Blues Singer, Helen Humes, was one of the Artist that helped in the development of Vocal Swing music. She worked with Count Basie and others and also was popular at clubs such as Café Society, Cincinnati Cotton Club, etc. Her vocal work included Blues, Ballads and Jazz numbers. Her career, which began after working at a Bank, as a Waitress and as a Secretary for her Lawyer father, had ups and downs and periods of non-performance, but has impacted music hugely.
