Tribute Mondays: Jake Porter

Jake Vernon Haven Porter (August 3, 1916 – March 25, 1993)

Jazz Trumpeter, Songwriter and Record Producer, Jake Porter, began his journey in music at aged 7 on the Violin and then on the Cornet at aged 9. After working with Lionel Hampton, Slam Stewart and others into the 1940's, he served in the US Army from 1942-1943. He continued his Sideman work after leaving the Army and founded Combo Records in 1951, releasing R&B, Doo-wop and Jazz Records.
