Jazz Greats: Horace Parlan

Horace Parlan (Jan. 19, 1931, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US – Feb. 23, 2017, Korsør, Denmark )

Hard Bop and Post Bop Pianist and Composer, Horace Parlan, was regarded for his work with Charles Mingus. His right hand was crippled due to polio, but this added to his unique playing style. He was also a Sideman to Archie Shepp and Sonny Stitt. Tribute Mondays: Hasaan Ibn Ali

William Henry Langford, Jr (May 6, 1931 – 1980)

Jazz Pianist and Composer, Hasaan IbN Ali, influenced John Coltrane and some Philadelphia Musicians during his tenure. He only has one surviving recording  of his work (some works were destroyed in a record label Warehouse fire), but his documented style has been described as futuristic and advanced. Curtis DuBois Fuller (born December 15, 1934)

Jazz and Soul Jazz Trombonist, Bandleader, Composer and Educator, Curtis Fuller, was a part of the Jazz Messengers and a Sideman for John Coltrane, Sonny Clark, Bud Powell, Joe Henderson and others. He released well received solo work from the late 1950's onwards; he remains active and also teaches at the New York State Summer School  of the Arts (NYSSSA).
