Hazel Dorothy Scott (June 11, 1920 – October 2, 1981)

Trinidadian Born Jazz and Classical Pianist, Singer and  Civil Rights activist, Hazel Scott was given a Scholarship to study at the Juilliard School at aged 8 years old and had prominence as a Jazz Singer during the 1930's and 1940's. She had her own TV show in 1950, the first by a Black person. She appeared in several films and was a main figure in the fight for the rights of Black performers in Hollywood and other venues and helped to change the type of roles offered to people of Color. Her career was derailed in the McCarthy era and she lived in Paris after being Blacklisted. Thanks for your contribution Miss Scott, you are appreciated.
