Tribute Monday: Oliver Nelson

liver Edward Nelson (June 4, 1932 – October 28, 1975)


Jazz Saxophonist, Clarinetist, Arranger, Composer and Bandleader, Oliver Nelson, was a well respected musician that released groundbreaking Jazz Albums during the 1960's. He was a part of Louis Jordan's Band in the 1950's and got his Master  degree in 1958. His Album, "The Blues and the Abstract Truth", has been listed as a significant work and his arrangement works for CannonBall Adderly, Sonny Rollins, West Montgomery and many others are among the best Jazz pieces recorded. He also composed The Six Million Dollar Man Theme along with some other 1960's and 1970's Television and Film Scores. Oliver Nelson died of an heart attack at the age of 43 years old in 1975.
