Jazz Greats: Herbie Nichols

Herbert Horatio Nichols (3 January 1919 – 12 April 1963)

Jazz Pianist and Composer, Herbie Nichols, is regarded for writing the Jazz Standard, "Lady sings the Blues" Billie Holiday. His music consisted of a combination of Bop, Dixieland and Caribbean music and harmonies from composers Erik Satie and Belá Bartók. Most of his works from the 1950's was released in the 1980's, as critics of the day had little regard for his efforts during those years. He died of Leukemia in 1963; please take a listen here and have an exciting Saturday: Herbie Nichol Trio (Full Album) and Lady sings the blues (Serenade) (1956)
