Jazz Greats: Mongo Santamaría

Ramón  Santamaría Rodríguez (April 7, 1917 – February 1, 2003)

Cuban Born Rhumba Quinto (Congo Drum) Master and Afro-Cuban Latin Jazz Percussionist, Composer and Bandleader, Mongo Santamaria, was a important part of the fusion of Afro-Cuban Rhythms with R&B and Soul. He scored hits during the 1960's after working from the 1950's, and continued into the 1990's. He died in 2003; please take a listen here and have a good Saturday: Watermelon man and Afro Blue
