Tribute Mondays: Joe "Fox" Smith

Joseph Emory Smith ( 28 June 1902 Ripley, Ohio – 2 Dec. 1937 Central Islip, New York)

Jazz Trumpeter, Joe "Fox" Smith, started out as a Drummer, but switched to the Trumpet on advice from Ethel Waters. He was a part of the Jazz Hounds, McKinney's Cotton Pickers and the Broadway Syncopators during the 1920's. He worked with Bessie Smith on over 30 Recordings and was a Sideman to Eubie Blake, Noble Sissle and others. He died from Tuberculosis in 1937 at the age of 35 years old.
